A week from today I will be in the beautiful city of Seville, Spain. I've never been to Seville before, or Europe for that matter, but from all the pictures I've seen-- it's beautiful. I'm blogging to give anyone who is interested (hi mom, hi dad) an everyday glimpse into mi vida en Sevilla (Life in Seville). While I'm going to attempt to speak in Spanish as much as I can while in Spain, this blog will be my outlet for English!
One of my friends asked me what aspect of my trip I'm most excited for and I hadn't really thought about that. I realized what I'm most excited about is being lost. I've become so familiar with my life in Madison and Chicago that I'm ready for something completely different. Don't get me wrong- I will most definitely miss all of my family and friends, but this journey is something I've wanted for a while. Just a few nights ago my mom showed me something I wrote to her and my dad when I was 14. I wrote a letter to them about the reasons they should let me go on the 8th grade trip to Europe. While it didn't work out then, I am so grateful to be able to take this adventure now.
Here's a bit of what you can expect from this blog:
- A daily post. We'll see how long I can keep that up. I've got the blogger mobile app so hopefully that helps me stick with my plan. It may be just a picture with a caption-but the goal is to post everyday.
- You'll see A LOT of pictures.
- My struggles with the cuisine. I'm a very picky eater. The fact that I don't like seafood, ham, beans, and a bunch of other food will most likely make every meal a challenge. (or an opportunity to try something new! maybe….)
- Random thoughts. I plan to jot down everything I find intriguing and write about all of the culture differences I recognize on my journey.
- Cheesy quotes. I'm a lover of inspiring quotes so I'll probably be sharing some words of wisdom that I come across on my adventures... or that I see on Pinterest :)
- TO SMILE! If I wish for this blog to accomplish anything it's for those who read it to smile. (Cheesy- I know) But hopefully my crazy adventures and me making a fool of myself attempting to survive in a Spanish home, Spanish classes and Spanish city will bring a chuckle or smile to someone's face.
I want to stay in touch! LET'S BE PEN PALS! If you're not into the whole writing letters thing, I guess we could use technology...
The man at the Apple store told me that once I arrive in Spain and sign up with a new provider I won't receive any texts to my original number. He told me that I would be able to text with anyone who has iMessage and that I should download Whatsapp or Viber to text with those who don't have iMessage. I'm also up for e-mailing rlgilbert@wisc.edu. We can Skype, rebeccagilbert15, although we'll have to figure out that whole time difference thing! I'll also Facebook, Tweet, @penguinbecca, and Instagram, rlgilbert, about my adventures if you care to take a look!
I promise my posts will normally not be this long! But if you've made it this far- thanks for reading! and the posts are about to get a lot more exciting!
Sending smiles from Chicago,
Rebecca
(P.S- I'd seriously love to be pen pals! If you want to, just let me know and I'll send you my address!)
