Today is the Day!

I'm leaving the country today! After a few days of craziness things are calming down. I called my airline last night and was put on the line with a man who only spoke Spanish. I attempted to tell them that I was unable to check-in online and was having problems on their website, but after too many "repite por favors," I decided to ask for someone that spoke English. I'm getting really worried because it won't be as easy to find people who speak English when I'm in Spain!

My next struggle was packing, which is definitely not a strength of mine. I packed and unpacked into three different suitcases until figuring out which one would work best. The big jar of peanut butter is taking up lot of space, but is extremely necessary. Additionally, I am brining a frisbee with in hopes to teach some Spaniards how to play Ultimate! (Not sure if they play that there or not!) I managed to fit everything into one (large) suitcase with two small carry ons. I am amazed that I was able to pull this off.

This morning I decided to get up early and take a trip to my old middle school. I visited my first spanish teacher and told her about my study abroad adventure. It was wonderful to see her and catch up on things, but I really just wanted to let her know that she is the reason I'm going to Spain. I don't think I would have fallen in love with the language of Spanish if it wasn't for her. Additionally, she is such a great role model and inspiration. She was always so energetic in class and around the halls, and now she is going through Chemotherapy and is as optimistic and enthusiastic as ever. I will most definitely be thinking of her when abroad and radiating as much positivity as possible.

I finally downloaded Viber AND Whatsapp. I'm still unsure about the difference between the two, but message me on either of those applications (or iMessage) if you'd like to get in touch!

I have no idea what to expect which makes me excited and nervous all at the same time! I think I'm most nervous about being a picky eater, communicating to my host family that I don't like seafood, and taking business courses taught in Spanish. What am I excited for? EVERYTHING!

Sending Smiles From Chicago,

Rebecca
