I made it! Surprisingly, everything went smoothly on both flights and I made it to my host family's apartment with little troubles.
As soon as I got onto the plane I heard someone say my name, I turned around and it was my favorite Spanish TA from UW-Madison! I cannot believe she was on the same flight as me, but I'm taking that as a good sign for my trip. My seat was right next to one of my friends, Becca, so we decided to watch We're The Millers...in Spanish. Dinner on the plane was not my favorite (what a surprise). I have a hard time trusting meat in a box, so I stuck to the bread, cheese and wine. Yes, wine! I felt obligated to have some solely because I was able to and it was free.
Eventually, I arrived to Sevilla! I was put in a taxi and sent to my home (which is an apartment). My host mom, Virginia, greeted me outside and brought me upstairs. She is the sweetest! I met her daughter and son, Gema and Pace, they are both in their 30s. I also met Gema's husband, Carlos. None of them live in the apartment but they spend a lot of time here. Virginia is married but I haven't met her husband yet. So I think it's just me and Virginia that will be living together. I am still trying to understand everything that is going on.
None of the family speaks any English.
This makes me excited and I feel like I have already learned so much! I'm struggling to put together sentences and using a lot of google translate but hey, ya gotta learn it somehow! Virginia made this huge lunch for myself, Gema, Paco, y Carlos. I tried everything that she served and ate most of it. This is when we had the conversation of all the foods I don't like. Virginia was so supportive and understanding but she told me I have to at least try it, which I agreed to. We also had a very long conversation about peanut butter! I explained to them that it is integral to my diet and goes well with almost everything. I am excited for them to try it!
I also took my first official siesta (nap) it was fantastic.
Tonight, I am headed out to get Tapas with a pre-arranged group from my program. Looking forward to exploring the city in the upcoming days!
Sending Smiles from Sevilla,
Rebecca
