A New Adventure: In Ecuador!

The last time I blogged, I was recounting my experiences from my 4 months abroad in Sevilla and my travels around Europe. This new adventure will be a little different....
I'm heading to Ecuador tomorrow for an internship working with different microenterprises on business development: financial well-being, quality control, operations, marketing, sales, and more. I fly into Quito and will spend 2ish days there for my orientation then going to the town camarones, which means shrimp, and if you remember anything from my last blog series, you'll remember I strongly dislike shrimp. I'll be in camarones for 4 weeks working with a group of women who make soap, then at the end of June I'm headed to la calera, a small village outside of otavalo for 4 weeks working with a group of women that make jewelry. This group of women is the same group that I work with in my student org- Wisconsin without borders- we sell their jewelry at UW-Madison and in the community!
This past week has been bizay- I visited the travel clinic to get my yellow fever vaccine among others, and picked up my persription for my malaria pills, along with pills in case I come down with travelers diarrhea- very common there! Sorry if that was too much information. This blog is the real deal.

I've got my peanut butter packed, along with a folded up roll of toilet paper, and a crapload of bug spray. I'm pretty impressed I managed to pack everything into my backpacking pack, a duffle and a small backpack. Only bringing the essentials this time-- frisbee and hair straightener didn't make the cut.

Wowza- this is really happening! My flight takes off at 9AM tomorrow and I'll be flying out with my travel companion and co-worker for the summer, Keenan. Keenan is an art student at UW and he will be working on the product design as I focus on the business development.

Time to switch my brain into Spanish mode, because that's what I'll be speaking for the next 10 weeks! Hasta luego familia y amigos- I'll see you in August!

Sending smiles from Chicago,
Rebecca
